The Teen Reach mission is to inspire youth to live a complete live; loving serving and respecting themselves and one another. In the United States, each week, one-hundred youth end their lives. Since 2011, our bullying, dating violence and self-harm prevention facilitators have been invited into high schools FREE of charge to address the rise in disturbing trends amongst our nation’s young people. In addition to classroom discussions, we have identified a way to help teens and young adults deal with daily stressors compounded at times by depression, trauma, and overwhelming life circumstances.
Teen Reach hosts day-long retreats designed to educate participants with additional coping skills. Our most recent AUGUST 23, 2014 line-up included a surprising message from Season 8 Bachelorette, Emily Maynard plus true stories from bullied survivors. Specialists and counselors were available for individual sessions. Break-out sessions included positive choices for releasing the pressure of life-stressors: zip-lining,music and songwriting with recording artist Jocelyn-Elis, journaling and painting, make-overs, Zumba, basketball, soccer, yoga and light therapy, disc golf and much, much more! Charlotte-Mecklenburg and surrounding high school students, plus private practices and youth groups were invited and we served over sixty participants. A guardian reunited with their teen for dinner with Success by Choice keynote speaker Marlon Smith. A powerful ceremony closed out our theme of the day with Jackie-O singing “Let it Go.”
Individual and corporate partners’ like UPS, Snyder’s-Lance, Harris Teeter and Carolinas Medical Center sponsored the event which was provided at no cost to participants (although many donated). Our next fun – raiser: A holiday shopping extravaganza November 16th will raise essential dollars for Teen Reach’s 2015 speaking engagements, programs and events. Please donate to keep our programs reaching more students with a message of HOPE!
A support network of families, schools, community leaders, and our corporate partners will empower youth to make wise choices for their future health and well-being. Thank you for being a vital part of their success!
