Solution Poll

Rape Prevention and Education (RPE) Program
According to CDC’s Sexual Violence Survey, nearly 1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men in the United States have been raped at some time in their lives. http://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/rpe/index.html

Developing an effective prevention/ntervention program:

1. What types of intervention would be most powerful?

2. When, how, to who and by who, should the information be communicated?

3. What should be included to have a highest probability of preventing date rape?

More Stats from 2004: Estimates from the National Violence Against Women Survey (NVAWS), cosponsored by the National Institute of Justice and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

302,091 women & 92,748 men are raped in the US every year

1 in 6 women and 1 in 33 men have been victims of a completed or attempted rape at some point in their lifetime

>1/2 of all lifetime rapes happen before age 18

~1/3 of rapes occur before age 12

~8 out of 10 cases (83%), the victim knew the

perpetrator
